HAP is offering scholarship to Hmong students in Minnesota who have demonstrated leadership and academic excellence. Scholarships are given in two categories (Leadership Scholarships and Non-Traditional Student Scholarships). Application deadline is April 1, 2016.

HAP Receives $50,000 Grant for Commercial Driver's License Program

HAP is honored to have received a $50,000 grant from Wells Fargo. This grant will go towards purchasing a new bus for our upcoming Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program.

HAP Employment Services Staff Receive MFIP Excellence Award

HAP's Employment Services (ES) staff recently received the statewide Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) Exceptional Performance of a Team award. The ES staff accepted this award at an annual awards luncheon that was hosted by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED)and the Department of Human Services (DHS).

 

Congratulations again to our hardworking staff, as their efforts go on to ensure countless refugees and immigrants connect to opportunities to better provide for their families.

HAP was recently featured in a national article on MSNBC highlighting Minnesota's commitment to ensuring its residents and citizens receive health insurance coverage. MNSure is Minnesota's new online health insurance marketplace designed to increase access to affordable plans, ranging from free to low-cost policies for government health insurance such as Medicaid and MinnesotaCare to commercial health plans.

Hmong National Development, a subsidiary of HAP hosted its biannual conference in April at the Crowne Plaza/ Intercontinental in Saint Paul, MN.

 

The theme, “Honoring Our Legacy, Onward to Prosperity” was chosen because 2015 marks the 40th year that the Hmong have been in the United States since the first refugees arrived in 1975. Over 1,400 people attended to discuss important issues impacting the Hmong community.

HAP Launches First Bilingual Hmong Montessori Program in the Nation

04/20/2015

 

HAP recently opened an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) early childhood program serving the Hmong and greater refugee and immigrant community in Saint Paul. 

 

Our school will offer a dual language immersion program, allowing very young children to gain advanced literacy and language skills in both English and their Native language. Hmoob Toj Siab Childen’s House will serve as a pilot school with the long-term goal to replicate the program across the United States and internationally.

HAP and Other Hmong Organizations Cited as Model for Non-Profits That Help Next Generation of Immigrants.

HAP was recently named among other Hmong organizations and non-profits as a model for which other immigrant communities in the Twin Cities use to launch their own organizations. Somalis and Karen comprise the next generation of immigrant communities settling in the region, and many turn to organizations such as HAP for inspiration, collaboration, and partnerships.

Bao Vang, president and CEO of HAP was recently featured in an Minnesota Public Radio report on the 40th anniversary of the Hmong people's arrival to the United States. Bao is one of several successful Hmong-American entrepreneurs who have strove to make a positive impact in their local community.
